King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau'u tour the Tongatapu Agricultural Show. ‘Atele, 23 August 2013.
King Tupou VI opened Tongatapu’s two-day Royal Agricultural Show 2013 at the Manamo’ui Grounds in ‘Atele despite heavy rain this afternoon.
Accompanied by Queen Nanasipau’u the King delivered a speech before inspecting a colourful display of traditional food crops, seafood and handmade handicrafts from his vehicle driving in the rain around the muddy grounds, while a bare-footed Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano, and other guests followed on foot.
Jubilant women from Tongatapu villages showcased their beautiful tapa cloths, fine woven mats and handicrafts. Farmers and fishermen turned out with an abundance of local produce from vegetables, food crops to fish and seafood, while local products and services were also on show.
The show which ends on Saturday, August 24 and concludes this year's Agricultural Shows for all of Tonga's islands.
