Asian Development Bank elects new President [1]

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has elected its new president. Japan’s Former Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs, Takehiko Nakao will succeed Haruhiko Kuroda, also a former Japanese Parliamentarian who handed in his resignation in March.
Mr Nakao (57) was unanimously elected as the ninth president of the ADB by its board of governors, and was to assume office on April 28. The Chair of the ADB board of governors and Finance Minister of India, P. Chidambaram said “The ADB board of governors looks forward to working with Mr Takehiko Nakao and his strong leadership of the institution”.
“His extensive experience in international finance and development and broad and deep knowledge of the Asian region will serve ADB well in pursuing its vision of an Asia-Pacific region free of poverty”
Mr Nakao served as Japan's Minister of Finance for International Affairs at the Japanese Embassy in Washington D.C. from 2005-07.
