Nuku'alofa will be a Rasta Town on June 1, when the reggae Superstar, Lucky Dube, will be in town for a one-night concert at the Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium.
Lucky Dube, the first African from South Africa to make it big with reggae music, will arrive in Tonga on May 31 with a 13-member band. After the Tongan concert Lucky Dube will fly to Fiji for a one night performance at Nadi on June 2.
The Lucky Dube Teufaiva concern is made possible by Aloha Entertainment of Australia. The manager of Aloha entertainment, Vaha Tu'ifua, who is currently living in Tonga, said that Lucky Dube will tour Australia during June, but will have a one-week holiday in Fiji toward the end of May.
Vaha said that when a South African promoter colleague contacted him and told him that Lucky Dube would be in Fiji and if he was interested in organizing an event for him to perform in Tonga, "I said, Yes!" said Vaha.
Lucky Dube got into reggae music in the late 1980's, with his first album Rastas Never Die.
In Tonga Lucky Dube is very popular among the youths with songs such as Soldier, Number in the Book, and The Other Side.
Vaha said that tickets were $25 each at the door, but $20 if you buy now. He said that there would be free admittance for children aged seven and below.
