Inaugural Trade Pasifika 2012 attracts Asian buyers [1]

The Pacific Trade office in China has indicated that up to 20 Chinese buyers are interested in attending the inaugural Trade Pasifika 2012 (TP2012). The main areas of their interest are in forestry, fisheries and agricultural products.
The Indonesian Embassy in Suva has also confirmed their involvement in the upcoming TP2012 and will bring Indonesian SMEs and buyers to this June event, being hosted in Denarau.
"We are very encouraged by the daily enquiries that we are receiving both from the international and the local business community. We are working with our partners to gain maximum benefit from Trade Pasifika 2012" said Mereia Volavola, Chief Executive Officer, Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO).
The exhibitors at the regional trade fair are from the 14 member countries, but organizers are working to also attract international buyers to this event.
The buyers' added incentive to attend is a lucrative package. The buyers' registration fee includes: 4 nights accommodation with full American breakfast, evening functions, appointment sessions to meet exhibitors over the three days and the direct access to businesses in 14 countries of the region.
Another feature of the inaugural TP2012 is a 'Women in Business' (WIB) pavilion. Expressions of interest will be advertised shortly for WIB in the region. Trade Pasifika 2012 besides offering a meeting place and networking opportunities will also offer workshops on the following: updates on trade agreements, trade facilitation – customs, quarrantine etc, trade financing and developing exports within and outside the region.
This regional trade vehicle is an excellent opportunity for the businesses in the region to participate and promote their products and services to potential customers within and outside the region, as stated by the Chairman of the Trade Pasifika 2012 Steering Committee, Mr Kaliopate Tavola.
"Basically a Trade Exposition, there will be interests generated to have transactions, some discussions on bilateral arrangements so we opted for Trade Pasifika 2012, notion of trade exportable goods to the region and to areas beyond the region."
This regional trade expo is a collaboration between Pacific Islands Private Sector (PIPSO), the United Nations Dvelopment Programme – Pacific Centre, Secretariat of the Pacific Community, Pacific Island Forum Secretariates and the Melanesia Spearhead Group.

This week, Fiji's Ministry of Finance has granted approval for duty concession for goods brought in by Exhibitors from around the Pacific for the Trade Pasifika 2012.
