Hundreds of young athletes enjoy 3-days of Tonga inter-college sports [1]

Tonga's 87th Inter College Athletics Competition began on April 7 at the Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium bringing together hundreds of athletes from various high schools, to compete in the three-day event.
The annual competition this year is between 18 High Schools from Tongatapu and sports teams representing Vava'u Secondary Schools and Ha'apai Secondary Schools, and at the end of the first day Queen Salote College was leading the medal tally.
On Wednesday the competition kicked off with the 1,500m for the Open, Intermediate and Senior grade for both boys and girls followed by the 100m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus.
'Api Fo'ou
In the first Medal Award Ceremony held at 12:30pm, 'Api Fo'ou College had three gold medals for the 1,500m run in the Senior Girls, Open Girls and Intermediate Boys.
Tupou High School had one gold medal for the 1,500m in the Intermediate Girls grade and one-silver in the 1,500m Senior Girls. Tailulu College and Takuilau College had one gold medal each in the 1,500m. Queen Salote College won its first gold medal in the Open Girls discus throw
But by the end of the day Queen Salote College was leading the day's medal tally with 5 golds, Liahona had 4 and 'Api Fo'ou 3.
Rain has delayed the start of Thursday's events which include the 200m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 800m and 100m will start. Finals for field events were also scheduled for triple jump, high jump, javelin, shot put discuss and pole vault.
Tonga High School was the champion in last year's 86th Inter College Athletics competition, winning a total of 54 medals.
