Takitoa Taumoepeau the Secretary General of the Tonga Amateur Association Office (TASA) said at this stage, Tonga is looking at competing in six sports including Rugby 7's, athletics, boxing, archery, weightlifting, and swimming.
He said the team which would consist of about 30 members, including officials, would be confirmed in September but Dr 'Amanaki Fakakovikaetau has been selected as the Chef de Mission.
Baton Relay
At the same time, TASA is preparing to welcome the Queen's Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games that is due to arrive in Nuku'alofa next week on May 19-22.
The baton would first travel to Vava'u on May 20 for one day of relay before returning to Tongatapu for its rotation on Friday, May 21.
Tonga is the 60th country to receive the baton, which comes from New Zealand before leaving Tonga on May 22 for the Cook Islands.
