Man charged with rape [1]

TONGA Police have charged a 39-year-old man for raping a 17-year-old girl in Tongatapu.
The Deputy Police Commander Taniela Faletau in his Weekly Crime Report today, June 15, said the offender raped the young girl twice.
He did not release any further detail on the crime but confirmed that the offender would appear at the Mu'a Magistrate's Court in the Eastern District of Tongatapu on June 16.

Meanwhile, police recorded 53 crimes last week, a decrease from the 70 crimes reported in the previous week.
Theft emerged as the most prevalent crime with 14 cases; followed by 13 housebreakings; and 13 assaults; together with other crimes such as wilful damage to property, sexual offences and trespassing.
The value of properties stolen from theft and housebreakings totalled at $54,842.
The Deputy Commander confirmed that the Nuku'alofa Central Police Station recorded the most crimes last week with 25 criminal offences followed by the Mu'a Police Station with 13, and 10 at Vava'u, two at Nukunuku, two at Ha'apai and one at Houma.
