Australia Day celebrated in Tonga by new High Commissioner [1]

AUSTRALIA Day was celebrated early in Nuku'alofa on January 21, hosted by the new Australian High Commissioner to Tonga HE Mr Thomas Roth.
Mr Roth who arrived in Tonga about two weeks ago presented his credential to the Princess Regent, HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita at the Royal Palace on January 20.
The celebration was held five days before the official Australia Day, today January 26 and Mr Roth said that the early celebration was a family occasion, "in order that Christiane and my daughters Theresa and Nicola can be with us, before they return to Australia next week to continue their work and university studies respectively."
Mr Roth in his speech reminded guests that 2010 was the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Australia and Tonga, and said "I am looking forward to strengthening and diversifying the already-strong ties between us."
Tonga's Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano said Tonga treasured the warm and good relationship between the two countries.
The occasion also marked a changeover of staff at the Australian High Commission, Nuku'alofa. Ms Greta Cranston replaced Ms Debbie Reschke as First Secretary and Ms Eliza Woolcock is the new Third Secretary.
