Teacher fined for assaulting 8 year old pupil [1]

A 28 years old male teacher at the Matahau Government Primary School has been fined $100 for assaulting an eight-year-old pupil. The pupil reported the teacher to the police after he was assaulted for a second time.
The Deputy Police Commander Taniela Faletau reported that the teacher was ordered to pay $100 compensation by the Magistrate's Court at Nukunuku on February 24, 2011.
Marijuana
A 50 years old man, from Fanga has been charged by the Police for the possession of cannabis (marijuana) on Friday March 4, 2011.
Deputy Commander Faletau said that the suspect was apprehended when the Police carried out a search warrant. He remanded in the Police Custody, until he was released on bail on Monday, March 7. He was ordered to appear at the Magistrates Court on March 14, 2011.
Crimes
The number of crimes registered between February 28 and March 6, 2011 went up from 74 during the previous week to 107. The big jump was due to 33 embezzlement charges against an employee of a public corporation in Ha'apai.
Out of the 107 crimes reported, 39 offences were registered at Central Police Station, 33 in Ha'apai, 10 in Mu'a, nine in Nukunuku, seven in Leimatu'a, four in Vaini, two each at Houma and Neiafu Stations and one in 'Eua.
Assault was the most prevalent reported crime with 23 offences followed by 18 housebreaks, 14 theft, four obtaining by false pretence, six willful damage to buildings and property and three Indecent assaults.
