Chairman of Tonga Power Ltd. resigns [1]

The resignation of David Wright as Chair of the Tonga Power Ltd. was confirmed by Tonga's Ministry of Public Enterprises today.
A spokesperson said they had received David Wright's letter of resignation last week.
The chairman's resignation follows former Board Director and former Prime Minister Feleti Sevele's resignation last month, the Ministry also confirmed.
No reasons have been given for the resignations.

David is a New Zealander who came to Tonga in a consultancy role as Special Advisor to the Tongan Minister for Finance and he was Acting Chief Executive of Tonga Power Ltd. establishing and managing the business as a public enterprise until the appointment of a permanent Chief Executive. Since then he has been the chairman of the board.
CEO of Tonga Power Ltd., Peter McGill also confirmed David Wright's departure as chairman of the board and said that he had received his letter of resignation last week.
No Chairman or Acting Chairman had been appointed at this stage, but it was business as usual, he said.
The next meeting of the board of Tonga Power Ltd. is scheduled for July 13.
Peter said that under the new Public Enterprises (Amendment) Act 2010, a board meeting reaches a quorum with at least half of the members present and if the Chairman is not present, the directors forming the quorum will elect a chairman for that meeting.
Currently the members of the board of Tonga Power Ltd. are understood to be: Tsutomu Nakao, Carl Sanft, Lisiate Guttenbeil and Warren Moyes (the Chair of Northpower Ltd.).
