TWENTY licences have been issued to whale watching operators in Tonga for the 2011 Whale Watching Season, from June to November.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism confirmed today, June 10, that 12 licenses were issued to Whale Watching Operators in Vava'u, and three each for Tongatapu and Ha'apai; and two for 'Eua.
In 2010, 24 licenses were issued to whale watching operators that saw 18 licenses for Vava'u, two for Tongatapu, three for Ha'apai and one for 'Eua.
There is a drop of licenses for Vava'u operators as there are only 12 for this year in comparison to the 18 in 2010.
The whale watching reason usually runs from May to November with peak season in July to September.
