A manhunt continues for the two male prisoners who escaped on June 6, who are thought to be on Tongatapu, but frustrating prison wardens who are looking for leads on their whereabouts.
The Commissioner of Prisons Sione Falemanu told Matangi Tonga Online on June 20 that the two prisoners Sione Uatekini (25) from Tatakamotonga and Peni 'Inia (21) from Tu'anuku, Vava'u who lived at Kanokupolu had remained at large for 14 days now.
He said they have not received any promising leads of where the two men might be.
But we were informed over the weekend by a member of the public that the two men were sighted at Pea. When we dispatched our search team there on Sunday, June 19 there was no sign of them at the village, he said.
The Prison Commissioner, however, believed they were on the right track since the hut they searched at Pea had an underground hole that might have been used to hide the two men.
The prisons and police are appealing to the public to step forward with any information regarding the two men.
