'ELINA Maka Raass (57) became the first Tongan to win the Overall Best Nett Winner Trophy in the Fiji Women's Amateur Golf Open 2011 held in Suva on July 7 -9.
This was a great win for 'Elina who played in the first division in the annual tournament which attracted about 80 players from Samoa, the Solomons, Papua New Guinea, Niue and several Fijian clubs.
'Elina told Matangi Tonga Online on July 15, she was very happy with her win and gross score.
"I brought back to Tonga with me the Trophy for the Overall Best Nett Winner," she said.
'Elina will be competing in the upcoming South Pacific Games in New Caledonia and she aims to win a medal
"This trip was a beneficial practice towards the South Pacific Games," she said.
Prior to the open tournament 'Elina also competed in Fiji Gold Club Ladies competition and won the first division.
This was a great start for her in continuing to the Fiji Women's Amateur Open because she provided stiff competition to Fiji Grade A players.

At the same time Lady Robyn Tu'ivakano, the only other Tongan woman golfer also played well and won the Longest Drive in both the first and second day of the tournament as well as the Nearest to Pin (NTP) on day three.
