ROZ Mahe goes to New York next month to perform in Times Square in the finals of an international contest that is seeking extraordinary female singers. She will record and sing with international stars Fergie and Natasha Bedingfield.
A talented singer of Tongan and Samoan heritage, Roz was selected as one of eight finalists from around the world, in Avon's first Online Global Talent Search that attracted 6,000 entrants.
Roz told Matangi Tonga yesterday, that she was thankful for the support from her fans that had helped her to come so far in the contest - but she still needs to prove the support of her fans in the online voting every day from now onward until October 15.
"For one last time I ask for your support to vote for my Finalist video performance for the chance to record a professional album in the States and use music in a positive way to uplift our people," she said, "Fa'afetai Lava, Malo Aupito".
Roz remains the only New Zealander-Pacific Islander in the contest, representing the United Kingdom where she lives.
"There are two separate comps. I am in the General Public Competition of which there are only 8 Finalists, and we're competing against each other only. On the site they've just put all our videos up together for this round." Roz said this site also included another two Finalists who are only competing against each other for a separate competition called Avon Reps
"We are also singing a new song written by the legendary Dianne Warren who is one of the judges. This song is going to be recorded in NY with our celebrity judges who will also be singing on it together with us ladies.
"Yes, we will be performing individually for all the celebrity judges for the last time in front of a 'live' audience at Hard Rock Cafe, Times Square, November 1. This performance along with online voting from our Finalist video will determine who will win. Then there is a star-studded Gala on November 2 for Avon Foundation for Women for which we will all perform as a group and which is where the winners will be announced. Fergie is hosting this Gala along with the CEO of Avon, Andrea Jung."
Online votes
"If you would like to support me, please take a minute to vote. You have 1 vote to cast each week starting now, then you will need to come back each week to cast 1 vote per week up until October 15. If you do not use that 1 vote each week, it will not carry over. You will need to Register on the site before you can vote, but it is free. Better still, if you have already registered, then easy, just login and vote under the video," explained Roz.
