Editor,
FIRST of all, a Big Fakamalo to 'Isitolo Maka, his coaching staff and players for making us Tongans proud!!!
Really in support of Chris Chapman's comments. Since 2008 or thereabouts, no international test matches have been played in Tonga given the conditions of the ground/facilities. Fiji and Samoa have been taking turns in hosting the Pacific Nations Cup and if the unfortunate had not occurred in Japan at the beginning of this year, it would have hosted this year's tournament.
Since the 1989 South Pacific Mini Games, there has been no major renovations made to Teufaiva apart from re-roofing of the stadium a few years ago.
I also think Teufaiva should be relocated to 'Atele to allow for more space plus all of the country's other sporting facilities are in this area.
At present Teufaiva is gasping for air and is slowly suffocating due to its surroundings. Imagine having the stadium at 'Atele with the lagoon and the golf course in the background, that'll be a real nice back drop instead of looking at spectators on trees/roofs and people's houses in the background.
Malo,
Sione
