New Community Police post in Ma'ufanga [1]

A NEW Tonga Police Community Post was opened at the Fakafanua Centre in Ma'ufanga this morning, 28 November, making it the sixth post in Tongatapu under the Tonga Police Community Policing Strategy, aimed at ensuring a safer community through the police working closely together with the members of the community to crack down on crimes.
The Acting Police Commissioner Taniela Faletau said the Ma'ufanga centre would enable the police, town officer, and the town patrols to work together for the safety of the people of Ma'ufanga.
Noble Fakafanua, the estate holder of Ma'ufanga, welcomed the opening of the new post as an important day for his area. He said this new community police post would ensure a safer community for his people, their properties and the businesses located within the vicinity.
The Ma'ufanga Community Police Post is manned by one police officer and assisted by up to 30 village patrollers, enrolled from community volunteers.
The new police post is located on the ground floor of the Fakafanua Centre, at the office of Ma'ufanga's District Officer who gladly welcomed the police post to share the office free.
Ma'ufanga village patrol officers were given vests and flashlights to help with their regular patrols of their community.
Other Police Community posts in Tongatapu, include Popua, Lapaha, Kolovai, Veitongo and Kolofo'ou.
