Vava'u Festival a colourful display of traditional culture [1]

The Vava'u Festival concluded the 2009 National Cultural Festival, which started in Nuku'alofa on December 7, and was held in 'Eua on December 10-11, Ha'apai on December 15 and Vava'u on December 17-18.
According to the Vava'u Visitors' Bureau, the two days Vava'u Festival December 17-18 at Pouono featured a range of cultural dance competitions including the Tau'olunga, Kailao, Lakalaka, Faha'i Ula, and Lakalaka. There was also a floor shows competition, a cultural fashion show and a group singing competition.
The guest of honour at the Vava'u Festival was the Hon. Fatafehi 'o Lapaha Tuita. This is the second year for the National Cultural Festival to be held throughout Tonga's four main centres.
