Ever heard of the Undercover Coconut Clowns? No? Then you're not tuned in, because last night December 16 they were the hottest hip hoppers in town and won the Radio Tonga A3Z 2004 Hip Hop Dance Competition. After showing how to shake that thing, the UCC walked off the stage at the 'Atele Indoor Stadium with the cash prize of $1000 pa'anga.
It was a tough competition among the 11 participating Hip Hop Groups showcasing moves that required not only fitness but their flexibility as well, but the UCC was just too fantastic in their performance and took the prize.
The second prize of $800 pa...anga went to the Jesters, the third prize of $500 pa...anga was won by West Coast Homies, the fourth prize of $300 went to Polyhoodz and the fifth prize of $200 pa...anga was awarded to the Smaili 4me girls.
Also participating were the Kingdom Boiz, the Lekelekaz, Ruff Riders, Thunder High, Bugs Bunny, Ma'ufanga Youngsters and the PHAT Sisters.
The hip hop competition was divided into two categories, the first category required all groups to dance to one theme song " Shake that Thing" by Jean Paul, and in the second category they were free to dance to any song of their choice.
This is the third year of the A3Z Hip-Hop Dancing Competition. The major sponsors were Motor Parts Service, Tonga Communications Corporation, Tonga Development Bank, and Funaki Enterprises.
