MOHAMMED FAHDA (22) one of Australia's "Most Wanted People" who is accused of murder, was extradited to Australia on Monday, October 5 following his arrest in Tongatapu last week.
Police Commander Chris Kelley this morning confirmed that Mohammed was located and arrested in Tongatapu near the central area on Monday September 28.
"Upon questioning he gave false statement and said he was visitor who had lost his passport while on holiday in Tonga. Initially, he was talkative but after he was aware that police knew his identity he refused to talk," said the Commander.
Tonga police forwarded his details to Australia and confirmed there was a warrant for his arrest for murder in New South Wales.
The Commander said Tonga's Border Control had no record of Mohammed entering Tonga, but police believed he was in Tonga two weeks prior to his arrest.
Mohammed, who is of Middle Eastern origin, had an expired Australian Passport and he entered the country without the knowledge of the Tongan authorities. He was deported to Australia escorted by three Tongan police officers.
Commander Kelley said further inquiries were being conducted in relation to anyone who may have assisted him to enter Tonga because it was obvious he was being assisted.
"This is one of Australia's top 10 most wanted persons in Australia and the Tonga Police are happy that we are able to assist the New South Wales Police in arresting this man."
Shooting
Reports in Australia stated that Mohammed is being charged for murder in connection with the shooting death of Abdul Qadier Darwiche in Sydney's southwest on March 14.
In Sydney the accused is being reprimanded in police custody court until an appearance on November 17 at the Sydney Central local court.
