Tonga's 2009 "Rulers of Hip Hop" competition will pay tribute to the King of Pop Michael Jackson on two nights, July 23 and 31 and showcase hip-hop groups competing to his music and legendary moonwalk moves.
Organised by Professional PR Tonga, the show in remembrance of the music legend who died suddenly in his Los Angeles home on June 25, will see hip hoppers competing to samples of Michael Jackson's music including a dance off to 'Thriller', the biggest selling album of all time.
Director and organiser Monalisa Palu said today, this is the second year for the hip-hop competition and six hip-hop groups have registered to compete for the $1,000 first prize. But she's anticipating more will join.
"Michael Jackson is the ultimate precision of choreography, innovation of moves and iconic status, and because there will be never be another Michael, we wanted to recognise greatness and what better way to do this than dance to his music," she said.
The hip-hop competition will be held at the 'Atele Indoor Stadium.
