Kalafi Moala, the Publisher of the Taimi 'o Tonga newspaper launched his new book In Search of the Friendly Islands in Nuku'alofa on Saturday, March 28.
The 148 pages book is a sequel to the author's first book, Island Kingdom Strikes Back, and covers key issues facing Tonga during its time of transition.
Based on his observations, Kalafi examines the cultural, political and social challenges faced by Tonga, and asks questions, such as how we will respond to changing circumstances, in his search for a positive future for Tonga that is founded on justice and good governance.
Among the topics discussed are the issue of leadership, culture, economic development, domination, globalisation and the effects of the riots of November 16, 2006.
In launching the book at the Tonga National Cultural Centre, the President of the Tonga Media Council, Pesi Fonua of Matangi Tonga Online, said Kalafi's new book tries to enlighten us on what is happening in Tonga during this time of transition.
He commended Kalafi's work as "an important contribution to Tonga's 'Book Culture' because one of the things Tonga lacks is written materials and this new book provides important written material for our future generation," he said.
Published by Pasifika Foundation Press of Hawaii, the book was previously launched in Auckland on Saturday, March 22.
Kalafi founded the Taimi 'o Tonga newspaper in 1989 and has to date added to his ventures the Taimi Media Network Television as well as the management of the Government-owned newspaper the Tonga Chronicle.
