Tonga's foreign reserves increased by $6.4 million reaching $130.3 million in January 2009.
The January foreign reserves of $130.3 million is the equivalent of 5.1 months of imports of goods for Tonga.
The National Reserve Bank of Tonga in a Press Release on Thursday, February 5 stated the rise was due to a private sector company borrowing from overseas and lower import payments during the month.
The January foreign reserve is higher than any month during 2008. In September 2008 the reserve was $128.5 million.
