It was back to school today for thousands of Tongan school children attending government high schools and primary schools, as well as some church high schools, colleges and primary schools.
In Nuku'alofa this morning the traffic congestion was a sign that the holidays were over as parents tried to navigate their way through the morning rush hour traffic to get their children to schools.
Government schools, including Tonga High Schools, Tonga Side School, Tonga College, Teachers' Training College and all government primary schools were opened today.
The Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga's schools, Tupou High school, Queen Salote College, Tupou College and all Weslayan primary and middle schools were also opened today although some were cleaning up and not in uniform.
Also opened today were the Seventh Day Adventist College, Beulah, and the Hillard Memorial School at Mangaia, Nuku'alofa.
All the schools of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout Tonga, including Liahona High School and the Havelu Middle School were opened last week.
The Anglican Church school in Tonga, the Saint Andrews High School will open on Thursday this week.
All Catholic schools, including 'Apifo'ou College and Takuilau College in Tongatapu will be opened next week.
Other Church and private schools, including Tailulu, Lavengamalie, and Ocean of Light could not be contacted today, but presumably they will be opened next week.
