The Indonesian police have arrested five journalists, one of them a foreigner, for attempting at entering the Nusakambangan island where three terrorists responsible for the first Bali bombing are detained.
According to kompas.com, the journalists were arrested before
they were able to land on the island to monitor activities leading to the
execution of the terrorists: Amrozi, Ali Gufron and Imam Samudra.
The journalists rented a fisherman boat and departed from a port
in Sleko village, Cilacap, Central Java before they were
arrested by a patrolling police boat.
"I didn't know they were going to take pictures of the island.
They told me that they were just going to cruise around," said
boat owner, Hendro.
The journalists were released after questioning.
The Central Java Human Rights Department has limited access to
the island saying that as of Saturday the media and the family
of all convicts imprisoned in three penitentiaries in the island
were prohibited to enter. JP Online/Pacific Media Watch, 04/11/08.
