Editor,
Your editorial comments on MT online is always a welcoming piece of reading, your fresh ideas invigorate our thought process and in analysing what is happening with new proposed changes and the proposed formations and structuring of how to best achieved the new form of Government for the Kingdom of Tonga.
In my humble view, if Tonga Parliament is serious about changes, World history is staring at Tonga with examples, there have been several road maps of how other countries have had their Government structured changing to a more democratic form of Government, and fulfilling their mandate in satisfying the voices of the majority of their people. Example: Iraq is an example of how each district chooses representatives attending a constitution convention on a referendum to chose their new form of democratic Government headed by a Prime Minister, chosen from the majority Tribes.
Tonga's best asset is it's people, Tonga's Government in my view is doing the right thing in the formation of a Commission to work on a road map to be presented to Parliament and the King.
In my view, the Commission should be visionary and plan for the future generations, not fall back to old status quo and hypocrisy, lay out your plan for the future generations of all of Tonga's people, and look at History, seek out how other countries have conducted their systems in presenting their findings to where the majority of the people could participate in it's historic decisions.
In my view, the people should participate in discussing the commission's road map, during a referendum and a constitution convention to be held in Nuku'alofa convention center, where each village or districts and churches select their own representatives to represent them in this monumental constitutional convention, and only then, the world would say that it is a clean and transparent systems representing the voices of the majority of Tonga's people.
Mahalo to your MT online staff for all your contributions to the
people of Tonga and the World.
