The General Manager of Tonga Broadcasting Commission Elenoa 'Amanaki (63) hands over the reins on public broadcasting when her four-year contract ends on Tuesday, September 30.
She confirmed today is her last working day and that Nanise Fifita, the Radio Manager and TBC Chief News Editor, will take over as the Acting General Manager effective on October 1.
Elenoa, an agriculturalist by profession, holds a Masters degree in Agriculture and joined Tonga's Ministry of Agriculture in 1967. She was the Deputy Director before she took up the position as TBC Interim Manager in 2002 after she was appointed by the Government at the time, to replace former TBC General Manager Tavake Fusimalohi who retired in 2001.
She said the General Manager position was then advertised but no one applied so in September 2004 she signed a four-year contract and became the General Manager. The contract ends tomorrow, September 30.
Financial development
Elenoa reflected that over the past few years TBC had improved its financial situation considering it went from an institution that was making losses to an organisation that has developed financially.
She highly commended her staff and said the achievement would have not been possible without them.
"We have also achieved quite a lot in regards to the core function of TBC which is the broadcasting of news bulletins through radio and television, the inclusion of Sky television and the development of its assets in relation to new equipment and TV productions."
She said at this point in her life she is just looking forward to enjoying lots of sleep and spending quality time with her family at her home at Ma'ufanga.
Elenoa, a Fijian, was married to the late Sione 'Amanaki of Ma'ufanga who was also an Agriculturalist. She has one son and six grandchildren.
