Liku‘alofa Beach Resort, popular in Tongatapu for its Island Buffet and Cultural Entertainment now boasts 11 new seaside cottages for tourists on its sandy coast.
Located at the village of Kanokupolu on the western side of the main island, the new tourism development worth nearly $1 million pa'anga is an achievement for owner and Managing Director, Peseti Ma'afu.
Peseti said the cottages consist of six duplex cottages and five single room cottages fully furnished with televisions, refrigerators, hot water, and coffee making facilities. A wireless internet connection is also available at the resort.
After starting to build the Liku'alofa Resort in 2006, Peseti focused on developing his weekly island buffet and show to make it the most popular on the island.
"At the same time I received requests from tourists and visitors that there was a need for good quality accommodation, and this encouraged me to build the new seaside cottages," he said. The new seaside accommodation was opened earlier this month.
Now they are developing a seawater pool on the beachfront close to their open design restaurant. The resort also has a beach trail and campsite with daily tours.
"I am also developing a dormitory accommodation that will target backpackers," he said.
Peseti is also the Managing Director for Apex Insurance Brokers and is the General agent for Colonial Insurance in Tonga.
Peter Tu'akoi is the marketing manager for Liku'alofa.
