King makes official visit to China [1]

HM King George Tupou V left Tonga yesterday on his first official visit to the People's Republic of China.
The Palace Office confirmed that in Beijing the king would have an audience with the President of the People's Republic of China, HE Hu Jintao. He is also expected to visit some of the provinces.
The main purpose of the visit is to reaffirm and strengthen the foreign relations between the Kingdom of Tonga and China.
The Palace Office also confirmed that as of yesterday HRH Princess Salote Mafile'o Pilolevu Tuita has become the Princess Regent.
The king is expected to return to Tonga in the third week of April. He is accompanied by his niece Hon Fanetupouvava'u Tu'ivakano, his Private Secretary Sateki 'Ahio and other attendants.
