The people of 'Eua will soon experience better roads thanks to a $313,375 New Zealand-funded project, which will start to upgrade the island's agricultural and tourism roads beginning next week.
The grant was approved in the last week of April by the New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZID).
The Tonga Ministry of Works will carry out the construction work, said Maliepo Toma, of the New Zealand High Commission.
The project aims to upgrade 10 kilometres of agricultural and tourism roads of 'Eua to provide farmers in the area with better access to markets on 'Eua and Tongatapu.
Maliepo said that surveyors of the Ministry of Land and Survey were expected to go to 'Eua next week so that the work could begin. The project is the beginning of some major development projects for 'Eua, which include the upgrading of its Water System, which is planned to begin in July.
