HM King George Tupou V and Apostle Elder Russell M. Nelson from Utah joined over 4,000 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in a special cultural celebration at Teufaiva Stadium on November 3 at the beginning of a two-day program to dedicate the newly-renovated multi-million LDS Tonga Temple.
The colorful event brought together more than 2,500 LDS youths who performed cultural dances of several Pacific Islands, including Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti and Hawaii, as well as New Zealand.
Apostle Nelson told the gathering he was touched by the Halleluiah chorus sung by the choir. "I'm so excited and carried away by the song tonight."
The program was broadcast live on satellite transmission for the world wide members of the church around the world, and was also live on national television and radio.
