Opening a new showroom today on Taufa'ahau Road, Skip's Custom Joinery is one of a few businesses that have moved into central Nuku'alofa following the riots of November 16, last year.
Diane Warner the CEO said confidently today, that the company's decision to move into town is a step that shows others they are moving forward, and to showcase to the local public their high quality locally-made products.
"For Tonga to have a value added economy people need to be both progressive and aggressive to move forward, that is why it is important to have confidence to take chances and rise up to challenges," she said.
Skip's new showroom, located next door to the New Zealand High Commission offices is an attractive sight that took about a month of renovation work.
Diane said that before moving into the building they did a complete renovation which cost them over $50,000.
"This is a huge challenge for us but it is good for Skip's to move from a small operation to a large local operation that Tongans can be proud of," she added.
Skip's Custom Joinery began in Tonga in 1989 specialising in a wide variety of design services and today has a new international design team. The manufacturing plant is located at the By-Pass Road in Pahu. The company focuses on manufacturing quality furniture, using richly-hued South Pacfic timbers. The company also offers carpentery services, joinery products, commercial fit-outs and home fit-outs including kitchens.
Diane said that she is currently looking at an export market overseas. She has recently designed fit- out jobs for the TCC's new UCall Mobile Center in Taufa'ahau Road, Leiola Duty Free Shop in Nuku'alofa and the Tonga Airport Ltd office at Fua'amotu.
