Wearing costumes as weird and wonderful as their names, nine fakaleities hotly contested Tonga's Miss Galaxy Queen 2007-08 crown, putting on a razzle-dazzle show at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall on the night of Friday July 6.
Modelling their creations in the final two categories, Galaxy Wear and Formal Wear, they put on the brightest show of the three nights event with their colourful and unique outfits.
The ecstatic winner, Razatania, Miss Tonga New Zealand South Seas, a 23-year-old hairdresser from Kolofo'ou, strutted a black and gold concoction in the Galaxy Wear competition - a display of other worldly creations that defied explanation, and even included a more down to earth Mummy wrapped in bandages.
Razatania was awarded a $1,000 cash prize, return tickets for two to Los Angeles, USA, and a gift pack of beauty products. Razatania also won the Best Man's Natural Wear, the Talent Competition and the International Wear.
The first runner up to Miss Galaxy went to Tara, Miss Market Tonga Real Estate, who appeared in a sensational red headdress with matching two piece costume, also winning the Galaxywear prize. Tara, who was popular with the audience, won a $700 pa'anga cash prize and a return ticket for two to Sydney.
The second runner was 'Ipi, Miss Professional Catering New Zealand. 'Ipi's prizes included $500 pa'anga cash and one return ticket to Auckland, New Zealand.
The third runner up was Miss Shooters 07, 'Amini whose prizes were $300 pa'anga cash and one return ticket to Vava'u.
In the Formal Wear category Erika the Miss Billfish Bar and Restaurant won with a dazzling red formal gown, a tight competition with other contestants also showcasing beautiful evening dresses.
The guest of honour at the ceremony was HRH Princess Salote Mafile'o Pilolevu Tuita.
Hon Salote Maumautaimi Tuku'aho crowned the new Galaxy Queen with the assistance of Miss Galaxy 2006-07 Coco Chandelier, who wore her crown for one last time during the final night.
