The Tongan Government will officially close down for its Christmas and New Year holiday at 8:30am on Friday December 22.
Paula Ma'u the Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister's office confirmed today that Friday would be Government's last working day.
He said that the Government usually resumes on December 31 but because it falls on a Sunday followed by the January 1 public holiday, all Government operations will not resume until Tuesday January 2.
Civil servants would receive their normal end of the year salary in spite of what took place on November 16, Paula said.
Other essential services provided by government, such as the airport operations and the wharf will still be working throughout the holiday period.
