Editor,
How sad it is to hear what is happening in Tonga. I was shocked to hear that the peaceful little island I grew up in and always held in high views has diminished its friendly reputation because of these ignorant rioters. Is this what they call democracy?
This is an outrage because the island is already poor as it is and this tragedy will not only weaken the economy more but the people will also suffer as well.
What happened to the values that we grew up with? Is it lost because of greed and ambition? They want to be like America but they do not realize how lucky they are to still walk around freely without the authorities questioning your every move.
Tonga have the luxury and the freedom we in America do not get to experience. You cannot tresspass into anyone elses' house without being arrested. We pay taxes to the government everytime we get our paycheck. We the people are not the rich ones but the government, why else do you think America is so powerful? The people worked for the government, we pay for everything unlike Tonga where there is no rent, no property taxes, no car insurance, etc. They should come to America and experience for themselves democracy because I'm sure in a short time they'd wished they were back in Tonga where they are still free!
So people please think before you act Tonga is precious and its people do not realize how lucky they are!
Disappointed in Sunnyvale.
