Tonga's Prime Minister Hon. 'Akilisi Pohiva was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at Vaiola Hospital today.
The hospital confirmed this evening that the PM was admitted to the Medical Ward "a few days ago".
No statement on his condition has been issued by the Prime Minister's Office.
However, the physician, Dr Sione Latu has confirmed at 8:40pm that the Prime Minister's condition is now stable, and he remains in the ICU.
The Prime Minsiter was admitted to the Medical Ward on Friday. His condition was unstable yesterday and an air ambulance was arranged with the intention of evacuating him to Auckland at noon today, Monday. However, his condition improved and the medical evacuation was cancelled.
New Cabinet
At the end of today, 8 January 2018, again we have not been able to confirm if Tonga still has a Caretaker Government or any other kind of Government.
The Prime Minister's Office has not been able to tell Matangi Tonga what is happening with the nominations for Cabinet.
Even government websites make no mention whatsoever on the names of the new Cabinet Ministers and the two governors for Ha’apai and Vava’u that the Prime Minister has proposed to the King.
The Civil Service returned to work on January 2, after the Christmas Holidays, but now a week later, Tonga remains in a limbo, not knowing what kind of government we have.
