Two ambulances for ‘Eua and Ha’apai were handed over on December 19 to the Ministry of Health from the Government of Japan.
Japan’s Ambassador HE Mr Tetsuya Ishii said the ambulance for Niu’ui Hospital in Ha’apai and Niu’eiki Hospital in ‘Eua is to strengthen the emergency medical services for both islands, which currently lacks any working ambulances.
“We are glad that these two vehicles will enable patients in need of urgent medical attention to be smoothly transferred and treated, which undoubtedly will contribute in saving many lives.”
Minister for Health, Dr Saia Piukala thanked the people and Government of Japan for the generous donation for these two island hospitals.
The ambulances worth US$58,858 were provided under a grant from the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
