A 30 year-old woman, who was sitting on the back of a utility van, broke her arm after she fell on the road at Pea, when a group of men threw water at her passing vehicle during celebrations on the roads for the Mate Ma’a Tonga win over Lebanon in a Rugby League World Cup match on November 18.
Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell said today, she was one of four passengers who were sitting on the side of the tray, when the group of men threw water at the vehicle causing her to lose control and fall to the road.
She was rushed to the hospital by a passing police patrol, sustaining a broken arm.
“Passengers are meant to be in the vehicle not on it and we ask drivers to take responsibility and look after their loved ones. If they fall off the bonnet, roof or from the back of a vehicle, people will get injured or killed.”
He said the law still applies during celebrations and there are limits to an individual’s enjoyment and not impeaching on others enjoyment.
“Enjoy yourselves but respect the law and respect each other.”
Police made 28 arrests towards the end of the night in alcohol related offences.
