A 32-year-old woman from Ma’ufanga has been charged with obtaining money by false pretences when she allegedly lied to a seasonal worker that she would submit her visa application for Australia.
The 27-year-old female complainant, who was to go under the Seasonal Worker Program from Houma, had in July this year paid the accused $600 pa’anga to complete and file her visa application in Nuku’alofa.
The accused is reported to have advertised herself offering this service, as she was a former seasonal worker. Nothing was done and the money was gone, said a police spokesperson today.
"We warn people especially seasonal workers of this and advise that they seek registered travel agents for assistance in visa applications."
Investigation continues on this case and other complaints that have been filed of similar nature, she said.
