Super Rugby Champion flyhalf Richie Mo’unga is officially now an All Black after being named in the All Black squad to play the Wallabies this Saturday 21 October in Brisbane. Richie was born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand by a Tongan father and Samoan mother.
The 23-year-old was reportedly called-up as a temporary cover for injured All Black flyhalf Beauden Barrett. It is not confirmed if Mo’unga will be fielded as it was announced that the starting flyhalf for the All Blacks would be Lima Sopoaga of the Auckland Blues.
Richie Mo’unga was the starting flyhalf for the Canterbury Crusaders who won the 2017 Super Rugby Championship this year. Mo’unga was the Crusader’s highest point scorer this year, collecting 133 points in the Super Rugby Championship.
Prior to the callup, Mo’unga was scheduled to play this Saturday for the Canterbury Rugby team in New Zealand’s regional tournament, the Mitre 10 Cup. Mo’unga is currently the leading point scorer in the Mitre 10 Cup competition (135 points).
