Thursday, September 28, 2017 - 17:52
The Japanese ambassador to Tonga HE Mr Yukio Numata farewelled Tonga in style by performing a "Tongan/Japanese" tau’olunga, during a farewell reception at their residence at ‘Anana, on September 27.
The ambassador's performance was the highlight of the evening which attracted many of the guests to join him on the floor.
Mr Numata has been the Japanese ambassador to Tonga since 2015, while his wife Yukiko, a professional pianist, volunteered as a music teacher at the Tonga Tertiary Institue TTI.
The Numatas listed their fondest memories during their two and a half years in Tonga, included swimming with the whales, and getting stranded twice in Tonga’s outer islands.
They will leave Tonga in early October.
