Samoa and the Pacific Games Council signed the 2019 Pacific Games Host Agreement in Apia this afternoon, 11 September 2017.
The Host Agreement was signed by Vidhya Lakhan, the President of the Pacific Games Council, Patrick Fepuleai, the President of Pacific Games Association of Samoa SASNOC, and Hon. Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Samoa’s Prime Minister at the Government Building Complex, Apia.
Vidhya sincerely thanked Hon. Malielegaoi and the government of Samoa for its commitment to support SASNOC and fully underwrite the cost of staging the 2019 Pacific Games.
“The PGC is very grateful that Samoa put itself forward to organise the 2019 Pacific Games at such short notice...The PGC will offer SASNOC all of the assistance and expertise we can to ensure they deliver another successful Pacific Games”.
Tonga was awarded the right to host the 2019 Pacific Games on 19 October 2012, but on 7 June 2017 PM Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva informed the PGC that Tonga would not host the games.
The Pacific Games Council is taking legal action against the Tongan Government for terminating the hosting contract that it signed in 2012, without informing the Pacific Games Council.
