A nine-year-old boy went missing after being swept by a strong current at a beach near Vaotu’u, Tongatapu on Saturday, August 5.
The incident took place when he was out on the beach picking sea snails with his father and brother when he was swept out to sea by a strong current.
The sea was low tide but the beach is like the blowholes where the waves can sweep in. Police were informed at around 3:40pm of the boy missing, said a police spokesperson today.
Police search and rescue arrived at the scene and launched the search for the boy until sunset with no results. They returned on Sunday morning and continued with the search but had no result.
The search continues today, Monday August 7.
