King unveils founder's monument at Tonga High School [1]

King Tupou VI unveiled a monument to his father, King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV, the founder of Tonga High School on Monday June 5, concluding a five-day celebration of the government high school’s 70th Anniversary in Nuku’alofa.
The new monument is engraved with an abstract of the speech made by King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV when he opened the school in 1947.
‘Ana Kavaefiafi a member of an ex-students committee said the monument was initiated and funded by ex-students, as a reminder of the importance and dedication to the founder.
In addition, a replica of the Faa’i Mata clock tower from the old school building that was burnt down on October 1, 2000, was also unveiled.
The King accompanied by Queen Nanasipau'u also opened a newly renovated chemistry laboratory.
Principal Taisia Ma’u said the lab was fully equipped with the work funded by government.
Also present were Princess Pilolevu Tuita, Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tuku’aho and Hon Lupepau’u Tuita-Taione, the new President of THS Ex-Students committee.
The day ended with feasting and entertainment by ex-students, at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall.
