A new classroom building for the Upper Room Primary School at Ha’ateiho was handed over on Thursday, April 20 in Ha’ateiho.
The building constructed with $185,795 pa'anga funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) has four classrooms.
Due to the increasing number of students and the shortage of classrooms, the PTA sought assistance to construct this additional classroom.
Japan’s Ambassador HE Mr Yukio Numata said Japan has always placed education very highly on the list of priorities, because it is the base to develop one’s capacity in order to improve basic human needs in Tonga and throughout the world.
"This new building is a representation of our combined efforts to guarantee the future of our children by ensuring their access to schools and education for all."
Vaisima To'a, on behalf of the PTA thanked the people of Japan for funding this project to enable the future of the Primary School.
The Mo'ui Fo'ou Church operates the school, which started as a kindergarten in 2008. In 2014, the Ministry of Education and Training granted the school as a Primary School.
This year it accepted 219 students and 16 staff.
