Sydney Rooster’s winger, Daniel Tupou, is eager to represent Tonga at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup (RLWC17) this October.
“If I got the chance I would definitely put my hand up to play for Tonga,” Tupou stated on the official RLWC2017 website.
“The last World Cup was my first experience playing for Tonga and it was an awesome experience, and a learning one for me…I guess it will just come down to performance and hard work so hopefully I can make the side.”
Born and raised in Australia by his parents Michael and ‘Ofa, Daniel Tupou said he enjoyed the cultural experience of playing for his ethnic homeland.
“I love playing for Tonga, especially the cultural experience as I grew up here [Australia] not really knowing much about the culture back in Tonga”.
Last week, Tupou played his 100th NRL match for the Sydney Roosters. Tupou would be considered a prime choice for Mate Ma’a Tonga selectors, the 25-year-old has scored sixty tries for the Roosters and already possesses world cup experience playing for Tonga in 2013.
