Nearly half a million pa’anga was committed by the Government of Japan on 27 February, to fund three projects aimed to improve the quality of life of people from the grassroot level.
The projects includes the upgrading of a technical course classroom building at Tonga College, installing a flake ice machine complete with water tanks for ‘Uiha and Felemea in Ha'apai and two new ambulances to be sent for 'Eua and Ha'apai.
The Ambassador said the ambulances will assist the emergency service response on these two outer islands. The flake ice machine will not only serve the people of the 'Uiha and Felemea village, but will further cultivate the fishery sector in Ha’apai.
At the same time, the tech-course students at Tonga College will finally have their own building with four classrooms to conduct their theoretical studies.
“In total these projects are approximately almost half a million Tongan paꞌanga, and attempts to address a broader scope of human insecurities. I am confident that with our coordinated efforts we can overcome many of the hardships that the Kingdom faces,” he said.
Dr. Siale ‘Akau’ola, CEO for the Ministry of Health thanked Japan for its ongoing and significant assistance especially through this Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, which uplifts the quality of life of the people from the grassroot level.
