A 21-year-old man from Pahu who is charged in relation to the brutal attack on a 58-year-old woman last week at Pahu, has been further detained in custody to appear at the Fasi Magistrate’s Court on Friday, December 2.
A second accused, a 45-year-old man, also from Pahu has been arrested and charged with receiving stolen goods. He is alleged to have received half a carton of canned chicken, which the 21-year-old had allegedly stolen in the attack.
Both men remain in custody at the Central Police Station.
Chief Superintendent Tevita Fifita said this afternoon the 21-year-old, whose name has not been released, had appeared before a Magistrate this morning.
He said this was in order for police to request the court for his detainment because their investigation is still ongoing.
"A Tongan national, he has been charged with assault with a weapon, housebreaking and theft. But we expect to lay more serious charges against him once we get the victim's medical report from the doctor," said Superintendent Fifita.
The accused was arrested after the brutal assault of Mrs Ellen Yu at her home early Thursday morning, November 17.
The victim remains in hospital, after sustaining serious injuries when she was attacked with a piece of wood while asleep in her room at her home at Pahu, shortly before 3:30am.
