21-year-old man arrested for brutal attack at Pahu [1]

A 21 year-old man from Pahu has been arrested and charged by Tonga Police following the brutal assault of a 58-year old woman at Pahu early Thursday morning, November 17.
Mrs Ellen Yu was attacked with a piece of wood while she was asleep in her room at her home shortly before 3:30am, and remains in hospital.
Police said this afternoon the victim who was hit on the head was taken to Vaiola hospital and is in a critical condition.
Chief Superintendent Tevita Fifita said this was a traumatic experience for the woman and she is being provided with lots of support.
“He was apprehended soon after the attack which is a great result and has provided the victim with some comfort.”
The accused who is a Tongan national has been charged with assault with a weapon, housebreaking and theft is in custody to appear before the Fasi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, November 23.
Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell said their thoughts and support are with the victim and family at this time.
“Police continues to work closely together with the Chinese Community in Tonga to ensure their safety in their homes and businesses. Our role is to keep all our citizens safe and working together with the community, we have the privilege of serving.”
He said this is outstanding police work that has led to this early arrest.
