Ben Kealy from Ireland is the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer for Digicel Tonga starting on Friday, November 18 for a period up to two-years.
He comes to Nuku’alofa after being CEO for Digicel in Nauru, where they launched a new Play TV and 4G/LTE.
"I am happy to here. My main core objective is to build on top of what Ronan McGrane, outgoing Digicel Tonga CEO and the team have been doing here, which is taking smartphone penetration to 65 percent today."
He said one of the plans for Digicel Tonga in the next three to six-months is to get 4G launched around mid next year, and again this would see smartphone penetration.
"Digicel will continue to put customers at the forefront of our business and we are committed to providing the best value of telecommunication needs in Tonga," he said.
He thanked McGrane for an exceptional job particularly in the recent achievement of installing the longest microwave link in Asia Pacific and improving connectivity and data service in Tonga.
McGrane said the new CEO is a valuable asset as he comes with boundless knowledge to help the business grow.
Digicel Tonga also launched its ‘Get Gifted Christmas’ campaign by introducing various special offers and a weekly cash draw. The lighting of a Christmas tree was also planned to be held tonight, at Digicel Square, CBD.
