Around $30,000 pa'anga was raised by a charity event hosted by HM Queen Nanasipau’u on Saturday to support the work carried out by the Tonga National Centre for Women and Children, on Saturday November 12, at the Polata'ane Royal Residence.
TNCWC Coordinator Fuiva Kavaliku said they had now received up to $30,000 from the proceeds on the night. "But the total and final amount would be more since we are still counting and receiving donations, which we are deeply grateful for," she said.
The charity dinner, entertainment, auction and raffle was organized and hosted by the Queen as Patron, to raise the funds and assist victims of domestic violence.
The event had initially collected $10,000 pa'anga alone from tickets sold at $100 pa’anga each for only 100 guests, with the additional funds raised during the charity auction and raffle.
“We at TNCWC want to wholeheartedly thank the Queen for her tremendous love and support for the centre’s work and activities. Without her assistance in this charity we would not have been able to raise so much money like we have,” said who Fuiva also hoped this charity event would become an annual fixture.
"The money raised will assist greatly the centre's operation and help alleviate the many challenges we had faced when we fell short in our target budget in the last financial year, she said.
TNCWC is a non-profit organisation that began in 2000 and strives to provide services and support for women and children who are in a crisis situation.
